Pictures Needed
As we discussed at conferences, we would like to have pictures of things, events, people, or places that are important to us. If you haven't already done so, please send a few pictures to school to keep in your child's writing folder. We are "writing from our hearts!"

Celebrate Writing!
Friday was our first celebration as authors. After writing a personal narrative, students revised their writing, shared with friends and teachers, and had a popcorn treat.

Snacks
We can turn our snack time into math time! Sorting and graphing snacks was easy with our Goldfish crackers today. Emma and Gabby showed us how to make two different graphs. We are in need of more snacks. If you haven't already done so, please send your second set of snacks, thanks!

Seasonal Fun
It looks like Thanksgiving in room 208...painting turkey feathers, making Indian corn patterns, and next week making "pumpkin pie in a bag."
Cold Lunch Reminder
On Thursday, November 15th, due to our field trip, we will be eating in the classroom when we return. Please pack a lunch from home. Thank you!
Authors Everywhere
In addition to writing at school, many, many students are also writing more at home! Students are encouraged to bring in their creations to share with the class. This allows classmates to share writing ideas and build off of those ideas. We continue to revise our final writing pieces this week and will celebrate our good work and progress on Friday afternoon with a little writing celebration.

Celebrate Veterans Day
Mr. Metz, Mackenzie's father, spoke to our classes about Veterans Day which will occur on November 11th. This important day is a time to celebrate our freedom and thank the many people who have served our country so we have freedom. We learned that the colors of our flag represent justice(blue),courage (red), and purity(white). Brandon shared his new learning about the flag as he experienced a flag retirement ceremony over the past weekend with the Boy Scouts. We are making cards that will be distributed at the VA hospital or given to the USO to give to veterans overseas in care packages.

Current Events Every Tuesday
We are curious about the things that are happening in our world. Each Tuesday, we will be discussing current events. Hurricane Sandy was the first topic we discussed. We were so curious about the hurricane and it's destruction that we did a little research throughout the week to answer some of our questions. With the next Tuesday being election day, we will focus on the presidential election. However, I am encouraging families to participate by listening to the news, reading the newspaper, and browsing the Internet for any items that would be newsworthy for our class to discuss! Please help! We will be using comprehension strategies such as making connections, identifying new learning, asking questions, finding answers, visualizing and inferring. We are developing powerful thinkers in room 208!
Bag Lunch on November 6th
Due to voting being held at Wilson on Tuesday, November 6th, the lunch menu has changed. The only lunch choice being offered that day is a "bag lunch."

Inquiry Update
We are currently learning about "National Symbols" such as the Liberty Bell, Mount Rushmore, the American flag, the Great Seal, the Statue of Liberty, and more. We are differentiating between our background knowledge and new learning about the symbols. We are also asking questions using the words, "I wonder." We look forward to inquiry on Tuesday and Thursday mornings with Ms. Azzolina's class.
Fall Fun
We concluded the month of October with festive snacks, crafts, and songs. Thank you to the Meyer, Wood, and Szalacinski families for the snacks!

We will be attending Beauty and the Beast @ West Allis Central High School on November 15th. Please return the permission slip and $2 fee by November 9th. Our two chaperones will be Jennifer Schaefer and Susan Regalia.
